24/12/06 - Information from SLMM regarding Jordanian civilian ship Farha III

The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) has been informed that due to technical problems, the Jordanian ship Farha III is stranded NE of Mullaitivu.

SLMM yesterday conveyed to LTTE that the Government of Sri Lanka would conduct a rescue mission to salvage the ship and its crew. SLMM strongly advised LTTE to allow for this operation to be executed without any delay.

SLMM has urged LTTE to respect international law and the sovereign rights of Sri Lanka in the territorial waters surrounding Sri Lanka.

SLMM is continuously liaising with the Government of Sri Lanka and the LTTE on the issue of the Jordanian ship Farah III.
