28/12/06 - Information from SLMM regarding Jordanian ship Farah IIIThe Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) conveyed a message to the LTTE on Saturday 23. December stating that the Government
of Sri Lanka would conduct a rescue mission to salvage the Jordanian ship M/V Farah III and its crew. SLMM strongly advised
the LTTE to allow for this operation to be executed without any delay and urged the LTTE to respect international law and
the sovereign rights of Sri Lanka in the territorial waters surrounding the island.
Despite SLMM’s advice to allow for the Government of Sri Lanka to conducts its commitments to Farah III, LTTE ignored the
advice and took the matter into their own hands. With regards to the incident involving Jordanian ship Farah III, the LTTE acted contradictory to its commitment to the CFA. SLMM reiterates that the LTTE has no right to the sea, and that the Government of Sri Lanka has the sole right to protect Sri Lankan territorial waters.
